Food Poems:
Barns class at Dwight Middle School, San Antonio

The blue tacos inside your eyes
the blue smile of your moo
and the tomatoes in your milk
made me want to be your valentine!

Dr. Pepper shouted
Chakaboom, chakaboom
chalupas burped grey
to my dismay
when big red at her spinach.

TALKING MEXICAN FOOD

Inside the space of the chiliquilles
Ayyyyyyyy, Ayyyyyyyy fajitas picosos
of margaritas big red and wine
and the tortas whispered:
meow, meow.

Dr. Pepper had blues
chased it away with rum shakers
Otono meowed shoop
La charanga married Dr. Pepper
dos veces.

La charanga cooked purple enchiladas
winter nights are so purple
summer is very easy
the cat cries meow, meow, meow.

In the space of your banana shake
I found an oink, oink
yeppers it is summer.

Juana la cubana married Dr. Pepper
Big Red ate all the enchiladas

La curcaracha loves hot does
and the fish has onion breath
while the calabaza chrangas
down the road.
nside the sound of the charanga

Dr. Pepper was dancing with Big Red
dancing to la bamba
I am at my best when
the red chiles make me zoom.

I wish teachers had aqua hair
and always said moo
Dr. Pepper por que llores?
the frijoles borachos
go oink, oink, oink
and all of this
is to say: Te querio!

The chaka Boom of your bud
I know a proud tan firjole
but the enchiladas get in
the way of our relationship
I wish people would not mistake
the mole for the posole
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

THE MARACHI DANCING WITH THE MARGARITAS

I can't understand
why margaritas with rose petals
go so good with menudo
Inside the quesidilla
I heard the marichi music
playing for the margaritas
I feel fine when I hear
the crash of the white rose
and the Dr. Pepper
sinking inside
the rosa

A LOST POEM

The blue rose drank soda
ate Brussels sprouts and died
I found myself
inside the onion and cried
my only regret
was that the enchilada
was soaked in Big Red
and in the end
I wasn't sure
If I was telling the truth.

THE FOOD MINGO

The lemonade in my fajitas
danced with my enchiladas
the eyes inside my sprite
splashed twenty two times

The ranchers danced
with the margaritas
Dr. Pepper heard a loud Kaboom
Everyone in the room said: Ah, ah, ah!

T oasting the flour tortillia
H olding it tight
O nly for my mouth
A s I fill it with tripas
S hrimp on the side of my taco.

SENSELESS RUMBLE

Shrimp w/Broccoli rumbled with chow mein
then the lingunini wrapped them up
while the meat sauce sat and watched
when the blue muffin went bang.

Poem by Dominick B. 2/23/94
Talented are my strengths
Intelligent is the way my brain works
French fries the length of my smile
Funny is my smile
Amazing are my ideas
Nice is my nature
Young is my age.

Poem by Tiffany A. 2/23/94

THE NUMBER OF TIMES (David B. 2/23/94)

The arroz in your enchiladas
made eyes at me
The cauliflower laughed Ha,ha,ha
and the birds chirped
There was a loud boom in my heart.

Nine plus twelve equals seven
This is the number of times
I wanted to say
I love me.
